HOW TO BECOME A REFREE

  1. Contact the person who’s in charge of referees in your neighbourhood club.
  2. Fill out the affiliation form (usually on the club’s website)
  3. Register with the club Referee in Chief or Director for the upcoming referee course: 7-a-side soccer (minimum 12 years old) or District level (minimum 14 years old)

LEVELS AND REQUIREMENTS

The ARS Lac St-Louis, in collaborations with the Federation de Soccer du Quebec, organises multiple referee courses before the start of the season. The different levels and admission requirements are:

7-a-side

  • Minimum age: 12 years old
  • 7-a-side Referee Course
  • Length: 1 day
  • Successful completion of the exam
  • Referee U11 categories and under

11-a-side – District Level

  • Minimum age: 14 years old
  • Length: 2 days
  • Successful completion of written and video exam

Regional Level

  • Recommended by the C.R.A.
  • Length: 2 days (course organized by the FSQ)
  • Successful completion of written and video exam
  • Successful completion of 2 physical tests
  • Three successful evaluations on U17AA+ games
  • 20 games as referee and 5 games as assistant referee

Provincial Level

  • Recommended by the C.R.A. and accepted as part of the detection group of the FSQ
  • The FSQ chooses the list of referees for the R2 group
  • Assessment by FSQ coaches and successful completion of the Programme Excellence Provincial
  • Length: 2 days (course organised by the CSA)
  • Successful completion of multiple exams
  • Successful completion of 2 physical tests
  • Three successful evaluations on Senior AAA games
  • 20 games as referee and 5 games as assistant referee

National Level

  • Recommended by the C.P.A. for the Top 10 program
  • The FSQ recommends referees to the CSA
  • Participation at the National Referee Course
  • Participation at the Canadian Championship
  • Successful completion of multiple physical tests
  • Successful evaluations on PLSQ games
  • Referee multiple games as referee and assistant referee

Pathway of the Referee

After the successful completion of the 7-a-side or District course, the referee will officiate for their club of origin. Having gained experience, the referee can be recommended by their club for the District List which is assigned by the ARS Lac St-Louis which will allow the referee to experience a higher caliber of games. Following the continuous development of the referee and with the help of evaluators, the referee may be nominated to the Regional List which will offer AA and Senior games.
